Sony's PlayStation3 may cost a bit too much for gamers |
In an announcement recently made on a radio show with France's Europe 1 Radio, Vice President of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe George Fornay gave an estimative value for the price of PlayStation 3 in Europe.
According to Fornay, the console will have a price of somewhere between 499€ and 599€, which means between $613 and $736. He did admit that the price may seem to high, but insisted that it should be regarded as inexpensive considering the fact that the console will also have a Blu-Ray player integrated.
"If we take into account Blu-ray, HD video with drives priced at around 1,000 euros and above, [the PS3] will be a bargain," Fornay told Europe 1. "If we only look at the game function, it's true that consoles were usually priced under 500 euros. We will be at this price point. It will be expensive if we only look at the game aspect of the machine, but it will be very cheap if we account for the set of technologies that it will integrate."
It is expected, however, that the prices will be lower in the U.S – like the €399 European price compared to the $399 in the U.S. for Xbox 360. Otherwise failure may be imminent for Sony's console, regardless of all the fancy new technologies and multimedia features that it includes.
The console is scheduled for launch in November this year.
