Google acquires student's search algorithm |
It seems that the Internet search leader Google has recently acquired a new search algorithm developed by Ori Alon, an Israeli doctoral student in computer science at the University of New South Wales in Australia.
The recently patented algorithm is called Orion and is said to answer the search
queries by listing only the most relevant results, also taking into consideration
the quality of the site. Moreover, it also provides a list of terms or topics
related to the original search keyword.
"For example, if you search information on the War of Independence, you'll receive
a list of related words, like Etzel, Palmach, Ben-Gurion," Ori Alon explained,
as stated by Haaretz.
The technology behind it seems to be quite wanted as, according to the University,
Yahoo and Microsoft were also negotiating with its business
development company.
Google only confirmed that "Ori Alon works at Google's Mountain View, California
offices." No further comments were given by neither Google, nor Alon or the University.
