Jeans manufacturer sues Jessica Simpson for $100M |
Singer Jessica Simpson is brought into court for failing to promote the products of a LA clothing manufacturer, as promised. Tarrant Apparel Group (TAG) is suing the star for $100 million, according to E! Online.
TAG sustains she signed a 3-year deal in 2004 to promote and wear its JS by Jessica Simpson and Princy clothing lines. The contract requires Simpson to be actively involved in promoting products, whether requested or not.
The jeans maker claims she not only failed to wear their clothes, but has also named rival maker of jeans - True Religion - as her favorites, instead of Princy.
Jed Ferdinand, Simpson's lawyer, said his client denies the allegations. It's absolutely untrue, he said. That's what the evidence will show, and she will vigorously fight the lawsuit.
TAG lawyer Jack Gordon said both parties had attempted to resolve the dispute amicably, but negotiations failed. The fact is that celebrity branded apparel requires the support of the celebrity, he stated.
Tarrant said it had already paid Simpson $2.2m, with another $1.6m guaranteed in sales royalties and $4.4m for the remainder of the contract.
Jessica Simpson played in this year's movie remake of 1980 TV series Dukes of Hazzard and is in production on the comedy Employee of the Month. She is also working on her upcoming album And The Band Played On.
