April means "Scary Movie 4" |
"Scary Movie" is back this April, with the fourth installment of the series. Director David Zucker ("Airplane!") is in charge again, for the second time, after taking over the franchise from the Wayans Brothers.
The main actors from Scary Movie 3 are back, too: Anna Faris as Cindy Campbell, Regina Hall as Brenda Meeks and Simon Rex as George, joined by Craig Bierko as Tom Ryan.
As usual, “Scary Movie” lampoons a couple of high profile films of the past few years, in a mingled plot – which somehow manages to work. This time, it’s Steven Spielberg's "War of the Worlds," Takashi Shimizu's "The Grudge," James Wan's "Saw" and M. Night Shyamalan's "The Village," with a quick trip through “Brokeback Mountain” and “Million Dollar Baby,” too.
The Tokyo haunted house from “The Grudge” sits next to the Bayonne, NJ, dockworker’s house of “War of the Worlds” and people sucked into the alien machines end up in the bathroom from “Saw”. But, after all, “Scary Movie” is a parody and should be taken lightly.
The movie is full of special appearances from stars. Dr. Phil and Shaquille O'Neal appaear in the “Saw” part. Craig Bierko stars as Tom Cruise’s character in “War of the Worlds”, joined by Michael Madsen as Tim Robbins' nutcase and Leslie Nielsen as an idiot president. In the “The Village” part of the movie, Bill Pullman takes on William Hurt’s part, Carmen Electra plays Bryce Dallas Howard’s role, and Chris Elliott stars as Adrien Brody’s character. Charlie Sheen returns in his role from “Scary Movie 3.”
All in all, if parodies are not you cup of tea, stay home. But if you enjoyed the previous "Scary Movies" and like seeing horror hits torn to pieces, take a trip to the cinema to see this.
